Reclaiming Wood for Wine

I just added these bottle stoppers to the shop.  Mesquite as such a lovely grain.  Turning the mesquite on the lathe fills the air with shavings and smells incredible.  I like to leave the cracks so I can inlay with Turquoise but I have to be careful that I don’t catch my tool and crack it all the way through.

I love the  way they came out. Most of the Turquoise and other minerals or gems I use come from The Tucson Gem Show which I wrote about here *-.

One of the minerals I am continually drawn to is the Septarian Egg or Nodule.  and decided to create a Mesquite Septarian Egg bottle stopper. Definitely making more of these!

These are really fun to make! Great to top olive oil too.

I’m excitedly working on some Cottonwood stoppers and will be adding them soon.  The Cottonwood works out  great for inlay as it has lots of wonderful of nooks and crannies.
